About the Digital Transformation Office
The Digital Transformation Office leads design and strategy for Canada.ca, establishing web standards and performance metrics for the Government of Canada. They provide guidance and tools to ensure a consistent, high-quality user experience across government websites.
The Digital Transformation Office is hiring a Senior Content Designer!
Content design focuses on solving user problems by organizing and presenting information based on research, data, and expert input — it’s more than just writing. As a senior content designer, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create user-centered content for Canada.ca and help shape content strategy to ensure consistency and meet user needs.
This role is a 1-year term position and is classified as an IS-05 in the Program and Administrative Services collective agreement, bilingual imperative (BBB). This position is open to applicants located anywhere in the country.
For this opportunity, priority will be given to candidates currently employed by the Federal Public Service.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, write, and edit user-facing content that’s clear, accessible and based on evidence
- Lead working groups to collaborate on and create central guidance
- Work across teams to align on content models
- Create and manage a lexicon of common terminology
- Champion plain language and content best practices
- Support on communications activities such as newsletters, minutes, blog posts, research summaries, one-pagers, etc.
- Research style and grammar issues and coordinate updates to the Canada.ca Content Style Guide
- Providing advice to the GC web community about design patterns and content design
Qualifications:
- Experience creating, updating and formatting web content using HTML and/or content management systems
- Ability to create original content on a diverse group of topics
- Experience in simplifying complex concepts to support findability, understandability, and usability
- Experience working alongside colleagues to rapidly prototype
- Ability to write in plain language
- Knowledge and understanding of technology, and new digital trends
- Ability to manage competing priorities
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.0
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing
- Ability to provide strategic advice to colleagues or other stakeholders
