About the Digital Transformation Office

The Digital Transformation Office leads design and strategy for Canada.ca, establishing web standards and performance metrics for the Government of Canada. They provide guidance and tools to ensure a consistent, high-quality user experience across government websites.

The Digital Transformation Office is hiring a Policy Advisor!

This role is a 1 year-term position and is classified as an EC-05 in the Economics and Social Science Services (EC), bilingual imperative (BBB). This fully remote position is open to applicants located anywhere in the country.

For this opportunity, priority will be given to candidates currently employed by the Federal Public Service.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a policy advisor on an interdisciplinary product team, playing an enabling and advisory function alongside other subject matter experts, supporting efforts to mature products and tools for Canada.ca.
  • Advise product and CDS leadership on interpreting corporate, program, and service policy; meet compliance and reporting requirements; and navigate government processes and culture.
  • Take practical CDS delivery lessons and support efforts to drive changes to legislation, guidance, practices, and governance to help scale iterative software development and human-centred design across government, working closely with policy centres, corporate functions, and others.
  • Support the development of policy-oriented guides for CDS and the Government of Canada and publish documentation, blog posts, and other material in the open to help others across the government.
  • Help measure the impact CDS is having in terms of Canada.ca, with a focus on working with web and product teams in departments and agencies.
  • Support team efforts to research and connect the dots between government services and other areas of digital policy, such as artificial intelligence, data management and privacy, or technology and sustainability.
  • Support the development of policy and service delivery proposals to senior officials in government to advance CDS’s mandate and mission.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with digital product teams and/or digital service delivery
  • Experience providing advice on files within the digital government portfolio (for example: data and privacy, service and digital policy, artificial intelligence, etc.)
  • Knowledge of how technology and design can enable government to build better services
  • Ability to provide written advice to senior management on complex policy problems in a way they will understand, sometimes on very short deadlines
  • Ability to work in an agile and open environment
  • Ability to be client-centered with excellent listening, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to research and be creative in solving problems
