Imagine accessing Government of Canada (GC) services and programs with a single, secure sign-in.
Whether you’re applying for benefits, managing information, or accessing government services online, remembering multiple usernames and passwords can be frustrating. People accessing Government of Canada programs and services deserve a simpler experience.
That’s why the Canadian Digital Service (CDS) is building a new solution that will offer a secure single sign-on experience. By enabling access to multiple participating GC programs and services through one username and password, CDS is making government services easier to access while maintaining robust security and privacy standards.
CanadaLogin is already being used by a handful of early-adopter partners. These real-world implementations are shaping the solution and preparing it for wider adoption across the Government of Canada.
What CanadaLogin will change for you
The Government of Canada currently offers more than 90 online programs and services, each with its own sign-in and identity verification requirements. This fragmented approach makes it difficult for users to access the services they need, resulting in an experience that is often inconsistent, time-consuming, and frustrating.
CanadaLogin makes it easier and more secure for people to access GC services. Key benefits include:
- One secure sign-in: Use a single credential to access multiple GC programs and services, reducing the need to manage multiple usernames and passwords.
- Strong protection for your information: Built to meet the latest GC security and privacy requirements, CanadaLogin helps safeguard personal data.
- Built with users in mind: Continuous improvements informed by partners (GC departments and agencies) and user (people and businesses) feedback help ensure CanadaLogin remains reliable, secure, accessible, and easy to use.
CanadaLogin is a modern single sign-on (SSO) solution that provides a secure and seamless way for individuals and businesses to access Government of Canada programs and services online. It builds on existing sign-in services, while offering a more modern and integrated user experience.
CanadaLogin will be replacing existing legacy sign-in solutions currently used by Government of Canada departments and agencies. These legacy solutions include External Credential Management (ECM) systems (GCKey, Interac sign-in partners, Government of Canada Credential Consolidation Federation (GCCF) Consolidator, and Multi-Factor Authentication as a Service (MFAaaS)) and Sign in Canada (SIC). Decommissioning dates of these legacy sign-in solutions will span from Fall 2026 to Fall 2028. You can keep updated on service updates and dates on our roadmap.

While CanadaLogin lets users access government services and programs, it is not a form of digital ID. A national digital identity would be a government-issued digital version of an official ID card. Canada does not have a national identity card, in physical or digital form. CanadaLogin does not change this. It is a sign-in solution designed to make accessing online government services easier and more secure, not a digital identity program.
A smooth transition for people and businesses
With over 30 million users set to move from legacy services to CanadaLogin, CDS is focused on delivering a smooth transition that strengthens security and improves the sign-in experience for everyone.
Once a participating program or service adopts CanadaLogin as a sign-in solution, their users (such as people and businesses) will need to use CanadaLogin to access that service online. Users who are currently using a legacy sign-in solution to access their accounts, like GCKey or Interac Sign-In Partner, will be given the option to migrate to CanadaLogin.
Members of the public and businesses will continue to have the option, where applicable, to access federal services by telephone and in person. However, it is up to the specific program or service to provide those options. CanadaLogin is a digital credential for people who wish to access Government of Canada programs and services online, easily, and securely.
Eight portals paving the way towards CanadaLogin
Between April and September 2026, seven federal departments/agencies are transitioning from Sign In Canada (SIC) to CanadaLogin. SIC, a pilot authentication project, is being decommissioned in the fall of 2026.
Other legacy solutions like External Credential Management, which handles sign-in solutions like GCKey, will be decommissioned in 2028. Our ultimate goal is to be the single sign-on solution for all Government of Canada programs and services. A big undertaking, but a challenge we are excited to face.
As part of an iterative service delivery model, all eight online portals using the SIC service are the first to transition to CanadaLogin:
- Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (Client Space)
- Canadian Grain Commission (MyCGC)
- Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (Secure Portal)
- PrairiesCan and PacifiCan Application Portal
- Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.
- Public Service Commission of Canada
- Veterans Affairs Canada Healthshare
Once all 8 portals are using CanadaLogin, CDS will begin working with other departments and agencies to onboard to CanadaLogin.
